Mr Jia was due to retire recently after serving the Chinese army for eight years, according to a report by state broadcaster CCTV.
As he prepared to leave the camp, the officer bid an emotional farewell with Da Mao, the first search and rescue dog he had trained.
Mr Jia and his four-legged partner shared a strong bond and became best after working side by side for the past two years.
After handing Da Mao over to his colleague, the officer is seen in the video petting his furry comrade one last time before walking away.

The heart-warming moment, filmed at an undisclosed location, touched the hearts of many after it was shared online.

Another tearful farewell was captured at the barracks in western China’s Xinjiang where a sniffer dog called Bei Bei had a hard time watching its trainer retire.
The German shepherd is seen in the video filmed in August holding onto the officer’s duffel bag with its mouth, unwilling to let go.
The hound even tried to stop the car door from closing and kept chasing the moving vehicle after the trainer waved goodbye at his best friend.
