The US Air ?orce (USA?) will conduct developmental testing o? the new MH-139A Gray Wol? helicopter. The milestone achievement has now come a?ter Boeing secured the ?ederal Aviation Administration’s Additional Type Certi?ication process. This certi?ication is required by aircra?t to achieve Military ?light Release.
With these recent advances, the USA? can now evaluate the MH-139A’s critical military capabilities to ?urther move the program toward Milestone C. Ownership o? the ?our MH-139A helicopters was received by the USA? in early mid-August this year, the Air ?orce Materiel Command said in a release.
Prior to accepting ownership, pilots ?rom Detachment 7 o? the Air ?orce Global Assault Command (A?GSC) and 413th ?light Test Squadron conducted extensive acceptance tests on the helicopter. The USA? plans to acquire 80 MH-139A helicopters, training kits and support equipment. The MH-139A Gray Wol? will replace the USA?’s existing UH-1N ?leet.
The new ?leet is expected to provide signi?icant capability improvements in payload, range, speed, endurance and survivability. ?urthermore, the MH-139A ?leet will o??er vertical airli?t, as well as support ?our USA? Main Command and other operating agencies. These include Air ?orce Materiel Command, A?GSC, Air Education and Training Command, Washington Air ?orce District and Air ?orce Reserve Command.
