Award-winning Tulip ‘Showwinner’ is a striking cultivar of the waterlily tulips. Its bright scarlet flowers open wide to reveal a golden heart and are held on short stems above handsomely mottled leaves.
- The flowers open wide during the sunny hours of the day, providing an entirely different color effect than when closed. The flower shape also changes dramatically; when open, they resemble a shining star. The wavy-edged, lance-shaped foliage is quite attractive too. A beautiful sight on display in the early spring garden!
- This tulip was granted the prestigious Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society in 1993
- Growing only 8-10 inches tall (20-25 cm), this tulip naturalizes easily and will come back year after year to our delight! It creates dazzling harmonies with other bulbs, such as crocus.
- Performs best in full sun in rich, fertile, medium moisture, well-drained soils. Prefers areas with cool winters and warm, dry summers.
- Easy to grow, this tulip is a welcomed addition to beds, borders, and containers. Excellent as cut flowers! For best visual impact, plant in groups (at least 10 to 15 bulbs) or mixed with any other flowering bulbs.
- To be planted in fall.
- All parts may cause severe discomfort following ingestion and may cause an allergic skin reaction. Wear gloves and other protective equipment when handling.
- Toxic to dogs, toxic to cats, toxic to horses.
A symbol of spring, tulips are the most popular spring bulbs, and most gardeners reserve them a spot in the garden or containers. Grown for their attractive, vibrantly colored flowers, there are currently over 3,000 registered varieties, which are divided into fifteen groups, primarily based on the flower type, size, and blooming period of the tulip.
Kaufɱaпniana Tulips are noted for their brightly contrasting colors. Blooming in superb combinations of red, rose, and golden yellow in early to mid-spring, these showy prima donnas are low growers at 6-12 inches tall (15-30 cm) and are ideal in rock gardens or containers.
