According to information published on July 1, 2022, American company Oshkosh Defense announced that the U.S. Army Contracting Command – Detroit Arsenal has placed a $216 Million order for 513 Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTVs) and 1,152 trailers (JLTV-T) for the U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, and the Armed Forces of Montenegro, Brazil, and Lithuania.
“Seven years ago, we assembled a world-class team of experts in engineering, manufacturing, supply chain management, and operations, and delivered a winning JLTV solution to the U.S. military,” said George Mansfield, Vice President and General Manager of Joint Programs for Oshkosh Defense. “Today, we have an experienced workforce, a refined manufacturing process, and a mature, robust supply chain. No one else can say that. We are committed to delivering the best-protected mobility vehicle for years to come.”
The JLTV (Joint Light Tactical Vehicle) is the latest generation of wheeled armored vehicles developed by the American company Oshkosh Defense for the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps. In August 2015, the U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) Life Cycle Management Command (LCMC) awarded Oshkosh Defense, LLC, an Oshkosh Corporation company, a $6.7 billion firm fixed price production contract to manufacture the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV).
The layout of the L-ATV is standard for a modern wheeled combat vehicle with the engine at the front, crew and troops in the middle, and cargo area at the rear. There are two single doors on each side with one bulletproof window in the upper part. The vehicle is able to accommodate four military personnel.
The JLTV is equipped with an advanced crew protection system that offers a protection level similar to that of Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles. The L-ATV’s armored capsule is scalable and can accept multiple armor configurations to protect troops from IEDs and today’s other prevalent battlefield threats.
The JLTV consists of two variants including the four-seat Combat Tactical Vehicle (CTV) and the two-seat Combat Support Vehicle (CSV). The CTV is to support the General Purpose, Heavy Gun Carrier, and Close Combat ധҽąքօղ Carrier missions. The CSV is to support the Utility/Shelter Carrier mission.
The JLTV-Trailer (JLTV-T) is a multipurpose platform configured to support general-purpose cargo and tactical generator mobility missions. The trailer is built to operate with the Closed Combat ധҽąքօղs Carrier, the General Purpose, Heavy Guns Carrier, and Utility JLTV variants over the same mission profile of those vehicles.
