Territorial ѕtгᴜɡɡɩeѕ: Elephant Herd vs. Hippos – wіtпeѕѕ the dгаmа at the Watering Hole

To secure the best spot at a watering hole, a herd of elephants charged against a group of hippos in this very moment. The Pilanesberg Nature Reserve in South Africa witnessed the awe-inspiring confrontation of these giants of nature.

Wildlife photographer Corlette Wessels, 47, was just a few meters away when a large female elephant became agitated by the presence of the nearby hippos. The elephant’s aggression quickly escalated, prompting the hippo to turn around and flee.

Upon realizing that one of the hippo herds was in danger, many elephants joined in the pursuit, causing the hippos to run in search of shelter. The elephants, along with some other members of their herd, managed to avoid being struck by the hippos’ enormous tusks. Fortunately, a sense of calmness prevailed among the pachyderms as the hippos retreated to a muddier section of the watering hole.

In the Crocodile Nature Reserve, Corlette stated that she had never seen anything like it before. She mentioned that the female elephant appeared to be agitated by the proximity of the two hippos to where she was drinking, even though she was not an animal behavior specialist.

The speed at which everything unfolded was truly astounding. The elephants were trumpeting throughout the whole encounter. Corlette claims that the other hippo also appeared later, with some blood on its side, but otherwise unharmed.
