The dog, covered in ‘ticks’ âround the eyes and ears due to prolonged neglect by the owner

I simply don’t understand why someone would want to raise a dog if they’re going to neglect it like this. How much suffering and agony must the dog have endured all alone?

Today, I’d like to share the story of Belle, a dog who was covered in thousands of ticks around her eyes and ears due to long-term neglect by her owner.

Rescue members from CLAW, a local animal welfare organization in Johannesburg, South Africa, responded to a report of a dog being left unattended at home.

Upon arrival, the rescue members were shocked to see Belle’s condition. It was beyond imagination.

Her face, along with thousands of ticks around her eyes and ears, painted a picture of a dog in the worst possible condition due to prolonged neglect by her owner.

Due to the ticks, Belle, the dog, was suffering from anemia, rendering her unable to walk or move on her own.

Realizing the urgency of the situation, the rescue team, feeling helpless, swiftly rushed Belle to an animal hospital for emergency treatment. Upon examining her, the veterinarian shook their head in dismay.

The veterinarian carefully removed the tiny ticks, densely packed around Belle’s ears, even finding them deeply lodged inside her ears. The infestation was severe, and it’s unimaginable how much pain Belle had endured.

The situation was critical as attempting to remove each tick individually risked severe bleeding, potentially threatening Belle’s life due to the overwhelming number of ticks.

After a moment of consideration, the veterinarian opted for a potent parasite treatment. Over the course of several days, the ticks infesting Belle’s eyes and ears began to die off and fall away one by one.

At ᴛι̇ɱes, clusters of ticks fell off, a truly shocking sight to imagine. Belle must have endured so much during that prolonged period.

Subsequently, the veterinarian commenced treatment for skin infections and ensured Belle received special dietary care due to severe vitamin deficiencies, putting all efforts into her recovery.

Having successfully removed the ticks that had tormented her for so long, thanks to the warm attention and care, what became of Belle? Was she able to recover safely and regain her health?
